‘Burning’ single by Shadowqueen – out now!

Written for fans of rock with a touch of subtlety, the new single from Australian band Shadowqueen is a shock to the system, but in a good way.

There’s no point even trying to convince people who ‘don’t like heavy rock’ that this is worth listening to, but if people disregard it based on genre, they’re missing out. The musicality, from the verse basslines to the tight structures, is really strong here.

It helps that the production is so excellent too. Often, rock recordings lack some of the energy that you imagine comes across on stage, but not in this case. There are slight moments of distortion that mark out the fuller sections, giving extra leverage to the moments that aren’t so big. Nicely done.

Resonance single ‘Reverie’ – out now

As the weather begins to heat up (once this weird Saharan dust cloud passes anyway…) the timing is perfect for a brand new summer song.

In the nick of time, comes Resonance’s ‘Reverie’:

The single, out now, was written following a scenic plane flight, and really captures the wonder of the view. But this isn’t scenery swelling instrumentalisation in the vein of Sigur Ros, this is energetic, fun and rhythmic – an excellent tune for a summer party.

Based on this, Resonance – one of last year’s ‘MTV Brand New Unsigned’ nominees – are a properly exciting act worth keeping tabs on.
