A trio of musicians who have come together to form a new group of their own, Colour Colour are a London based group with an edgy but commercial sound. With clanging guitars and a vocal style that’s not a million miles from Arctic Monkeys, this is a band with a solid sound and potential for a very successful future in music.
This single, ‘Do Something Beautiful’, is something of a mission statement in both content and style. It’s fun, memorable and upbeat in tempo – doing a great job of whetting the appetite for future releases. Which is perfect, considering there’s an EP on the way in the summer.
2016 was a true break out year for Northern Irish song writer Amanda St John. A well received live tour and acclaimed album ‘Grow’ saw her become one of the hottest independent artists on the pop scene.
Continuing in that vein, St John has started 2017 with the release of her new single – album title track ‘Glow’.
Beautifully written and crafted to deliver an empowering message of learning from life’s mistakes, the track does an excellent job of delivering on its promise. And with more live dates coming up in 2017 the Amanda St John Juggernaut shows no signs of slowing.
The single and album are available now on iTunes, with tour dates at the Amanda St John website.
With a new EP out next week (25th November), Magazine Gap are a trio with a plan. First, they have established their credentials as a top notch funk-soul band with previous singles ‘What’s That About?’ and ‘Body Language’. And now, with the EP very close on the horizon, they have released the video for the excellent title track ‘Calling Card’.
Carrying on their trend of well written and produced tracks full of verve and energy, ‘Calling Card’ once again shows why Magazine Gap’s decision to ride the funk wagon was a good one. Clearly all experienced musicians in their own right, the three members knit together to form a tight package which really complements their genre. There’s plenty more where this video comes from, and more on the way, so click here to get the full skinny.
Solid pop fare from a young hopeful on the rise, ‘Something More’ is the new single from the excellent Luke Potter. Out today, the track brings together excellent production values, a laid back rhythm and a searing chorus to top, catchy effect.
It’s songs like this that keep growing the reputation of a young man who has already played a number of prestigious UK venues. And, with more on the way soon, you might be hearing a lot from Luke Potter as 2016 gives way to 2017. ‘Something More’ is out now on iTunes.
A hugely talented multi-instrumentalist who has already worked with the likes of Gary Barlow, Olly Murs and more, Max Restaino is that rare thing – an independent singer-songwriter with a real, solid chance of breaking into the music industry mainstream.
With a sound not dissimilar to the previously mentioned Murs, his is an accessible pop style backed by clear song writing talent and a solid band to back him up. That band have recently been impressing new audiences in support of Rebecca Ferguson’s national tour, and will no doubt have won over plenty of new fans – just in time for new album ‘The Time it Takes’
With a beautiful voice complimented by the light touch of piano and acoustic guitar, Ellie Jane shines on new single ‘Clocks’. Jane is one of the most highly thought of independent song writers in the UK at the moment, feeding off the good buzz she received when reaching the final of the national UK Open Mic competition.
And now, with this single and six song EP it promotes, she is taking a further step towards gaining the recognition she deserves. Far from being a cookie cutter pop princess, this is a writer of original songs with influences from far outside the pop genre.
It makes for an interesting cocktail, which should be enjoyed in full by finding the EP on iTunes.
Described in their press release as ‘multi-genre rock’, Magazine Gap are a band whose sound is quite specific but at the same time wide ranging. Blending that rock foundation with funk grooves and the accessibility of pop, this is clearly a specific style that the band are aiming for, shared by previous single ‘What’s That About?’ and their latest release ‘Body Language’.
The track is taken from an EP which is likely to further cement this sound and continue in the trend of well-written and well-produced music that’s perfect for dancing. The fact that there’s an EP on the way is good news in itself, but ‘Body Language’ is also available for free from Soundcloud.
There are already many people who have come across up and coming pop songwriter Dale McKay, but for the uninitiated now is the perfect time to discover him. Having already been talked up locally and nationally by BBC Introducing, his new EP ‘Here and Now’ hits the shelves (figuratively speaking) on September 16th.
With an acoustic foundation which expands into classy, catchy, song-writerly pop, his sound is immediately accessible and packed with relatable lyrics. ‘Make You Happy’ (above) is taken from the EP and gives a glimpse as to what you can expect.
As demonstrated by the video above, George Montague is a pop artist who knows his way around an acoustic guitar and a good old fashioned, catchy pop tune. The video above was released recently as a preview to his new album, ‘Curiouser and Curiouser George’, which is out now on iTunes.
What the above video doesn’t show you is that there’s a lot more to George Montague than meets the eye. A multi-instrumentalist and composer of the highest standard, his musical skillset is huge, and it all gets poured into the varied and high quality songs that fill his album.
Clocking in at seventeen(!) tracks, this is not an album that in any way leaves the listener short changed – well worth the investment for pop music fans who are looking for a bit of quality.
For fans of pop music, the key is often a case of including two of three things – a catchy chorus, intelligent layering and a toe-tapping tempo. Singer-songwriter Tom Jarvis might be in his early days as an artist, but he’s already showing these tropes in spades.
‘Wonder of Time’, the track above, has been released on iTunes as half of a double A side single alongside another track titled ‘Ordinary Lie’, with both tracks showing that the blend of catchiness, production and tempo is all there in abundance.
