A lovely blend of Ed Sheeran and Jack Johnson but with a pure female vocal to set it apart, the track typifies what’s great about Jess Thristan as a songwriter. Her lyrics are thoughtful and effective – wondering whether we’re held back from happiness by the gadgets of the information age – but presented in an upbeat package that belies its serious point.
It’s this kind of smart writing that runs through all Thristan’s work, and makes a new EP something to be excited about. With three tracks in total to enjoy and pore over, that’s less than a quid each.
